So - this is it - our very own blog.

We can use this as a central location for presenting, collecting and referencing ideas and themes. Over time, a blog gains value as more and more materials are posted and then can be easily located. I encourage everyone in the group with interest, to accept the email invitations I will be sending to participate in this blog. By joining it, you will be able to comment on existing entries and make your own.

I apologize in advance for the series of steps you may have to go through in order to create your own blog entries. I wish this could be effortless. I chose this blogger tool after reviewing and using several, and think it is among the best. Unfortunately, all of the blogger tools require some sort of registration process.

I've set this blog to not be included in blog indexes. This means, that although the blog is available to anyone with the address, it will be nearly impossible for someone to find it based only on the information it contains. It will be much like an unlisted telephone number. We can always change this, and many of the other attributes of this blog as we see fit.

This particular blogger application allows you to "label" your blog entries with keywords or themes. With these labels, the blogger tool automatically allows you to view entries with a given label (theme). I could see us using labels like "meetings", "themes", "politics", "humor", "science", "religion" in our blog. This too is something that we can edit and change as we like.

Please let me know if you'd like anything changed or if you need any help doing entries or commenting on this blog.

Jitterbug from Sphere to Concave Octahedron?

If the jitterbug were modeled as a sphere collapsing to a concave octahedron, the counterclockwise-rotating triangles would transform from a convex spherical triangle to a flat concave triangle, while the clockwise-rotating triangles would simply invert themselves, exposing the concave surface of the same spherical triangle. This may be difficult to animate in SketchUp. But that's not what happens. The spheres transform into concave VEs, the concave VEs expand to spheres (or convex VEs), and the concave octahedra simply turn themselves inside out. I'm working on an illustration of this.

The Rhombic Dodecahedron and the Closest Packing of Spheres

The rhombic dodecahedron is basically a cube turned inside out and has been shown mathematically to be a projection of the tesseract (the four-dimensional cube) into three-dimensional space. It is, like the cube, an all-space-filling polyhedron and directly corresponds to the closest packing of spheres, enclosing the sphere and the space surrounding it. Rotations of the rhombic dodecahedra demonstrate its projection of the tesseract and show the potential of the isotropic vector matrix as a model of four-dimensional space.
